A Morning Prayer

The Healing Power of Laughter
The Bible tells us, "A merry heart does good, like medicine,
but a broken spirit dries the bones" (Proverbs 17:22).
In his book, What You Don't Know May Be Killing You, Dr. Don Colbert shows that
research conducted by the Department of Behavioral Medicine at the UCLA Medical
School on the physical benefits of happiness proved conclusively that "laughter,
happiness, and joy are perfect antidotes for stress." Colbert added, "A noted
doctor once said that the diaphragm, thorax, abdomen, heart, lungs — and
even the liver — are given a massage during a hearty laugh." Wow, that’s
the easiest workout I know!
In light of that, let me share a comical story that occurred on our way home from
a healing mission:
Returning from a healing conference, one late Sunday evening, we were on the last shuttle, in the Austin-Bergstrom airport parking lot, with several fellow passengers.
As we each approached the lots in which our cars were parked, we called out A-1, A-5,
B-6, B-8, etc. Suddenly, a sleepy little boy of about 6 years roused himself and
boomed out B-Quiet!!

"When I lived in Metairie, LA, there was a little boy who lived down the street. He would come visit anytime he saw us in the yard. One day, shortly before Christmas, he showed up and sang "Silent Night" for us. His version of the closing line was "sleep and eat heavenly peas, sleep and eat heavenly peas."
I love his version, so, if I send you a message during the Christmas season which closes with "sleep and eat heavenly peas" or "eat heavenly peas" you will understand that it is sent with a loving heart and great fondness."

"God & Dog"
On the first day of creation, God created the dog.
On the second day, God created man to serve the dog.
On the third day, God created all the animals of the earth (especially the horse) to serve as potential food for the dog.
On the fourth day, God created honest toil so that man could labor for the good of the dog.
On the fifth day, God created the tennis ball so that the dog might or might not retrieve it.
On the sixth day, God created veterinary science to keep the dog healthy and the man broke.
On the seventh day, God tried to rest, but He had to walk the dog.

My son James is four. Whenever he hurts himself we lay hands on the injury
and pray for healing. The other day he cut his left finger, took hold of it and
prayed: "Jesus come out of my heart, go down my arm and fix my finger.
Please Jesus, amen." Found on

One of our 5-year-old Sunday school attendees said to me the other day,
“Janet, is God dead?”
“No,” I said. “ Why do you ask that?”
Looking extemely puzzled, he asked, “Why is he in heaven then?” found on www.javacasa.com
After church one Eastertime Sunday, my six year old grandson excitedly told me: "Papaw... I know why Jesus was hung on the cross." I was moved that even at this young age, the Sunday school lessons were sinking in! "Why, Micah? Tell me why" I asked, anxious to hear his interpretation of our Lord's sacrifice. Imagine my dismay when he blurted out... "Because, He walked on the palms!!" Oops... better go back and talk to the Sunday school teacher. By the time we finished our usual Sunday lunch together, rest assured that Micah had a much more accurate explanation. -- Michael Choucalas

National Day of Prayer Task Force Calls for Prayer for the Middle East
Colorado Springs, CO - National Day of Prayer Chairwoman Shirley Dobson has issued the following statement:
“As the tragic conflict in the Middle East continues, we at the National Day
of Prayer Task Force want to urge Americans to pray, not merely for one
more temporary ceasefire that could ultimately prolong the conflict and
cost more lives, but for a miraculous settlement that would end the turmoil
that has brought suffering and death to so many innocent people. We must
pray also that this powder keg in the Middle East will not escalate and
lead to greater violence around the world.
“We are calling on all people of faith to take time today and in the coming
weeks to pray for the following:
* Comfort for all who have lost loved ones
* A unified call from world leaders for an end to terrorism
* Secure borders for Israel
* Safety for civilians in battle zones
* A miracle that exceeds human strategies, which so far has been deficient.
“By uniting in prayer as a nation, we can avail ourselves of the wisdom that only God provides. By petitioning Him for mercy and grace, people everywhere can be a very real and necessary part of the hope and healing. Through prayer, we can call on the power of God Himself.”
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May those who love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.’” (Psalm 122:6-7 NIV)
We additionally seek:
*Divine wisdom for America’s leaders at this time
*Protection of all American military troops and their families
*Protection from the US being pulled into this conflict ~ Capital Hill Prayer Partners
